lock in your rebate

Save $3,560+ when you install solar in Victoria.

The Australian Federal Government provides substantial rebates when you choose to install a solar PV system at your property. The rebate amount is based on the size of the system purchased and is deducted from the upfront cost of the solar system by your chosen solar provider.

In 2024 you can expect a $3,560 or more reduction for a 6.6kW system, a common size for VIC homes.

Add the $1,400 on offer through the Victorian Government’s Solar Homes Program and that number jumps to a whopping $4,960!

  • The amount of STC’s you receive are affected by two main variables - Location & System Size.
  • Location - The Federal Government splits all of Australia’s postcodes into 4 categories: Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3 and Zone 4.

  • If you reside in Zone 1, you’ll receive a greater rebate than someone that lives in Zone 2, who will receive a bigger rebate than someone in Zone 3 and so on. Zones are determined by the number of sunlight hours you receive in the location you are having your Solar PV System installed.

  • System Size - The other variable in determining the value of your rebate and amount of STC’s received, is the Solar PV System’s size. The larger the Solar PV System, the more power it will generate and the more STC’s and rebate amount you will be entitled to.

The below data shows the STC's for 2024 in Victoria.

You can use the filters to adjust the deeming period (the year you wish to install) and the size of the solar system you would like to install.

  • Under the Australian Government’s Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), homeowners are entitled to a given number of STCs dependent on the system size, where the system is installed and which year the system is installed.
  • The scheme can be claimed on multiple properties. The rebate is claimed by the installer of your system and passed on as a point of sale discount.
  • STCs are a traded like shares and their worth fluctuates depending on the amount of installations occurring that year. More installs than expected and the worth depreciates. STCs are currently valued at around $38 but have been as low as $17, so now is definitely a good time to install.

  • The number of STCs you’ll receive drops each year. The STC worth can rise and fall depending on demand in the market also.
  • The STC value is currently very high but at risk of dropping depending on market demand and Government policies. Now is the time to go solar!

SOLAR FAQs

What people want to know when buying in NSW.

Here’s the short answer to a pretty complicated question.

The solar panels that go on your roof are made up of a collection of smaller ‘cells.’ These cells are made up of layers of silicon.

When light particles from the sun hit a cell they knock electrons lose from the silicon. This results in a charge being generate that your solar system can then capture and use to power your home.

Simple!

Solar energy is the very definition of renewable.

So long as the sun is shining your solar system will be producing free, clean energy to power your home and appliances.

The cost to install a solar system can vary on a number of factors, including;

  • Size of the system (kWh)

How long your panels last depends on a few factors, like:

  • The quality of brand and model
  • The quality of installation
  • Exposure and debris

Generally speaking though, your panels should perform well for at least 25 years.

There are a few things you can do to make ensure your panels last.

  1. Look for products with generous warranty terms
  2. Get your system installed by certified tradesmen who will honour those warranties!

Most households in VIC will have a rooftop suitable for solar.

Things can get a little trickier if you live in an apartment / under a strata arrangement, however.

If want to know if your home is ready for solar, the best thing you can do is request quotes from certified installers and discuss your individual circumstances.

It’s totally free and gets you the information you need to start planning your solar system

When choosing an installer you want to make sure they’re local to you and CEC certified.

This way you know you’re talking to someone who understands your area and can be trusted with your investment.

Always talk to multiple installers and compare each of their recommendations.

With multiple quotes you’ll be able to make an informed decision about your purchase that balances price, quality and service.

Not much!

Once you have solar installed on your roof it’s generally set and forget

Rain is usually enough to wash your panels of any debris.

Don’t forget. You can monitor your inverter either through its display or a connected app on your smart device.

On the off chance you notice an unexpected drop off in production, contact your installer. They should be able to help you troubleshoot the issue.
